Chillscapes
A downloadable game for Windows
This simple rhythm game/experience is being developed for the NEOC#03 Rhythm Game Jam.
Art was created by WhiteVault. Music was created by Pxzel.
This game is more of an experience than a true game. The goal is to relax and enjoy the music. Chillscapes will present you with an animated element that is synchronized to the beat of a new instrument being added. You must tap the rhythm of the instrument to "lock it in." Upon locking in the element, a new one will spawn and add another sound to the track.
Eventually all of the instrument roles will be playing, and the oldest elements will be replaced with new ones.
Instrument/loop selection is random, so it is possible that you may need to play for a little while before you hear the music evolve much.
Known Issues
This is a game jam game, and as such it isn't perfect. It was developed using a custom engine that is very much in development. Many features were added to the engine to support this game. The code, as-such, is currently a bit hairy.
- Sometimes at the start of a loop, the animations and beats do not register for a loop. This seems to be a timing issue, but I ran out of time to debug it before the game jam deadline.
- When a new element is added, sometimes the rhythm is very slightly out of sync. Like the previous issue, it doesn't always happen.
If there's enough interest in seeing this evolve into multiple tracks and expanding the functionality further, a rewrite to how the beats are timed/counted probably will fix both issues above.
